Democracies in Discord

Politics is a messy business and democracy is doubly so. And yet, the democracies of the world, for all their faults, have had an outsized impact on human civilization, contributing an immense amount to global prosperity, learning, and development.

Today, democracies face a dizzying array of challenges. Public discourse in the information age is often vitriolic and compromised by disinformation, trust in politicians is at an all-time low, and politically motivated violence is a growing threat.

The Democracies in Discord project seeks to shed light on how states - and their citizens - can understand and overcome the threats posed by polarisation, disinformation, and dissolution.
